Musician and Artist Leeav Sofer is the artistic director & co-founder of the Urban Voices Project. His box for Be the Change highlights the work of this extraordinary group.

Theme: Amplifying Vulnerable Voices

Rooted in Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles and now expanding to Orange County through music, community, and openhearted inclusion of the most marginalized members of society, Urban Voices Project amplifies artistic expression to improve well being, strengthen social networks, and inspire individuals to be their own best advocates. Their vision is to place music & singing community spaces in every medical and social service site across Los Angeles, to create community and a more comprehensive, holistic system for engaging individuals coping with the conditions of homelessness.

For more than fifty years, the Community Action Partnership of Orange County (CAP) has been helping people and families find their way out of poverty. From solutions for survival, job, and educational services to advocacy for racial equity, they help people and communities to thrive.

CAP will be the host location for Artist Leeav Sofer’s box featuring the Urban Voices Project. During Be the Change (BTC) Sofer’s powerful and interactive box will move to all four CAP venues through out Orange County bringing the voices, stories, and songs of Urban Voices to all corners of our community.  Check the BTC website to stay up to date on which CAP location to visit to see the Urban Voices box.

The Sofer’s Urban Voices box is further complemented by NA’AMAT, who serves our BTC OC Regional Ambassador. This collaboration aims to illuminate, within a Jewish context, the central themes inherent in the work of both the lead artist and the hosting site. According to Jewish tradition, we are responsible for safeguarding the most vulnerable members of our community, ensuring that those who appear powerless are given a voice. Biblically, Exodus 22:21-22 admonishes us that the cries of the oppressed are heard directly by God.

NA’AMAT offers essential assistance to families regardless of their social status, ethnicity, or religion. They uphold the belief that robust family units form the bedrock of a flourishing, healthy society. Consequently, they are dedicated to furnishing families with the necessary resources and support to enable their prosperity.
